RSPB Community

The RSPB would be nowhere without it’s members and the Community section is one of the most popular parts of it’s website.

With over 250,000 accounts and heavy integration with the rest of the RSPB website, making any changes to the Community is a major undertaking. A software upgrade in early 2011 (to Telligent Community 5.6) mandated a complete redesign, ideally via CSS alone. The structure of the new site was radically different to before and we had genuine concerns that existing users would find it very difficult to use. Teething problems at launch made things even more tense.

In the event, although the new structure did cause some consternation, the majority of users didn't break a sweat. Post-upgrade, traffic to the site is up 50% on average.
